Meet stand-up comedy’s next big thing, the delightfully deadpan Tig Notaro.

“I’m a 41-year-old woman that looks like Tom Cruise,” the elfin stand-up comedienne deadpanned at a recent photo shoot in Brooklyn, N.Y. “A lot of people think they don’t see it, and then they’ll see the right movie and just like that” — she snaps her fingers — “I’ll just get a text saying, “You were amazing in ‘The Last Samurai.’”

Lately Notaro, a friend and collaborator of Silverman and Zach Galifianakis, is getting used to being recognized as herself. Already beloved among insiders for her dry delivery and healthy absurdist streak (she once pushed a screeching stool around stage on “Conan” for a solid two minutes), comedy’s best-kept secret is on the verge of a breakout.
